Car Cleaning Tips from the Pros

Posted in NEWS AND UPDATES by Autobrite on August 21st 2019
Car cleaning can be a chore, particularly as it doesn’t always go to plan, but if done correctly, your vehicle can look like it just rolled out of the showroom! Don’t just throw a bucket of soapy water over the exterior, make sure you give it a proper clean to truly reap the rewards of your labour, with our top tips for car cleaning.

Choose the Right Time

Although on a hot summers day it can be tempting to get outside and clean your car, this is the worst time to apply products as the heat is likely to dry them onto the paint, leaving an uneven finish. Not to mention darker coloured cars absorb heat more easily and can burn your hands during in a contact wash.

Remove the Rubbish

Before you get started with any car cleaning, you should declutter the inside of your car, removing rubbish and taking any mats and seat covers out to be cleaned. Not only are these fixtures easy to clean outside of the car but will give you more manoeuvrability when tackling your car interior.

Inside Out

Start your car cleaning with the interior. It is always a good idea to hoover the inside of your car before tackling the exterior, to prevent loose dirt from finding its way onto a freshly cleaned surface. From there, wipe down and dress your interior paying close attention to the dashboard and upholstery or leather.

Wash, Rinse, Dry, Finish

However, you decide to clean the exterior, be it with a pre-wash, contactless, 2 bucket method, always make sure you rinse and then dry using a microfibre cloth. This will prevent watermarks from forming and using a soft cloth will prevent scratches. If you want to go a step further and protect your vehicle beyond the wash, apply a generous layer of car wax and buff off for a uniform cover that lasts up to 3 months.
