Caring for Exterior Plastics

Posted in NEWS AND UPDATES by Autobrite on May 22nd 2019
Although not the most susceptible to wear and tear, the exterior plastics on a vehicle can let the whole look down if they are not detailed correctly so it’s really important to pay as much attention to them as you do the bodywork. It doesn’t matter whether you have obvious front to back bumpers or svelte wheel arches they will need to be thoroughly cleaned and protected when detailing.

Fight the Fade

Although they are made of robust and hardy material, external plastic components are still exposed to elements that can cause damage on a daily basis. The sun alone can dry out plastics and give them an aged fade, which can not only be unsightly but could mean a costly replacement is needed to ensure the safety of the vehicle. If the plastic is looking a bit dated, it’s best to act fast with and use a dressing or dye to restore the colour. Our black dye carpet and trim stain is ideal for exterior plastics as well as internal ones so is a good all round investment.

Crack the Clean

If your car’ exterior plastic components haven’t suffered from any environmental damage, they still need to be cared for and cleaned regularly, to elongate that new car aesthetic. Plastics are prone to picking up scuffs and scratches, so it’s important to choose a non-abrasive, non-acidic car wash to use on them. Our citrus peel car shampoo is gentle but effective and is completely safe for matt surfaces.
