How To Hand Polish To Perfection

Posted in NEWS AND UPDATES by Autobrite on May 03rd 2019
Almost as soon as you drive your car off the lot and get it home, the paintwork already starts to look worse. From there on in, every time you drive the car, dirt begins to build up and the car needs a wash. But a quick car clean up with some car shampoo won’t make the paintwork shine all on its own and can actually cause streaks and marks on the paintwork. But with the help of some car wax and a bit of hand polishing, you can make your car gleam just like it did when you bought it, just follow Autobrite’s step by step guide.

Prepare for Perfection

No matter how clean your car seems, you can’t apply car wax without preparing the paintwork first and ridding the surface of any contaminants. Make sure to use a good car shampoo or pre-wash snow foam to lift dirt with ease, rinse off and then use a microfibre cloth to dry the car completely. Do not let the car air dry, doing so can result in watermarks and create more work for you later down the line. Dry the car panel by panel, ensuring it is as clean as possible, to minimise the effort needed in the car polish stage.

Choose the Right Wax

Opting for a liquid car wax or a clay car polish is the next big decision to make and which is best will differ from car to car. Liquid car waxes are better suited to newer cars and requires less effort to buff off and is generally easier to apply. Solid car wax, however, is great on older cars and while it takes more effort to buff out and remove marks, will achieve a more longstanding finish. Whichever type you choose, the application process remains the same. Go panel by panel to ensure that the wax doesn’t dry on before you have the chance to work it in and buff it off.
